By Cinthia Rico RAINSVILLE – The Plainview Lady Bears and Fyffe Lady Devils squared off Saturday afternoon for the 2024 county championship.
Plainview shutout Fyffe 10-0 in the final matchup to claim their ninth consecutive DeKalb County softball title.
In the winning circle, Shainne Parker gave up only two hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking none.
Plainview’s Jada Hampton got things moving at the bottom of the first with a fly ball, and Abby Williams scored. On the following play, Graidin Haas stole third, then scored a run on a Fyffe error, and the Bears took the lead 2-0.
Kadie Brooks plated home on a passed ball, and Mallory Lindsey followed thanks to a single from Williams, extending the Bears advantage to 4-0 in the second.
Plainview added two more runs in the third and fourth innings, carrying over their momentum into the following two innings.
Chloe Hatch’s homer to right field set the tone for the Bears’ third inning. Courtesy runner Kylee Dutton scored on a Faith Odom double, and a few plays later, Odom crossed home on a Lindsey single to center field, furthering the Bears lead to 7-0.
Williams hit a home run out of the field in the bottom of the fourth inning to give Plainview its second home run of the game.
With a double to left field to end scoring, Hampton gave the Bears a 10-1 victory and drove in Haas and Hatch.
Brylee Byrum took the loss for Fyffe, giving up seven runs on eight hits, striking out one, and walking two over three innings.
Katie Edge and Madelyn Hawkins lead the Red Devils at the plate with one hit each.
Plainview 13, Sylvania 2 (Semifinal)
Faith Odom earned the win for Plainview, allowing four hits and two runs over four innings and striking out five.
Chloe Hatch led the Bears at the plate with three hits, including a homer in the first inning that scored two runs and a single in the second that drove in two more runs.
Plainview extended their lead in the second with a seven-run burst. Graidin Haas singled, and Kylee Dutton scored to put the Bears in front 4-2.
Midway through the bottom of the second, Haas and Abby Williams crossed the plate on a Chloe Hatch single; Hatch scored on a Faith Odom hit; Kadie Brooks doubled; and Jada Hampton and Odom scored. In the following play, Mallory Lindsey singled and Brooks scored to make it a 10-2 game going into the third.
Kyndell Sammons led Sylvania at the plate with a homer in the second, scoring two hits at the top of the second.

Fyffe 8, Ider 5 (Semifinal)
Brylee Byrum earned the win for Fyffe, surrendering seven hits and five runs over six innings while striking out eight.
The Lady Devils took an early lead in the first behind a Madelyn Hawkins fly. Ider’s Sophia Murphey homered to tie the game at one in the bottom of the third.
Fyffe picked up momentum, adding two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Ider tied the game at five when Reece Jones doubled in the sixth. However, Fyffe reclaimed the lead in the seventh with a Sam Galloway homer. Byrum plated home on a Madelyn Hawkins hit, and Neveah Smith scored on a ground ball to make it 8-5 at the top of the seventh.
Sam Galloway led Fyffe at the plate with three runs batted in, while Neveah Smith collected two hits in four at-bats.
Miklyn Troxtel took the loss for the Ider, allowing eight runs on eleven hits and striking out three over seven innings.
The two-day tournament began Friday, April 12, in the opening round. Plainview shutout Crossville 17-0, Sylvania shutout Geraldine 10-0, Fyffe overpowered Valley Head 12-7, and Ider shutout Collinsville 11-0.
