Plainview Falls Short At State
The Plainview Lady Bears softball season came to an abrupt end at the AHSAA State Softball Tournament last Wednesday with two losses at Lagoon Park in Montgomery. In the first game, Plainview fell to Prattville Christian Academy 3-1 on the final play of the game. The game was tied at one with Prattville Christian batting in the bottom of the eighth when Carter homered on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. The pitching was strong on both sides. Prattville Christian’s pitchers struck out ten, while Plainview Bears Varsity sat down 13. In the second inning, the Lady Bears got their offense started. Krimson Kidd hit a solo homer. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Prattville Christian tied things up at one when Montgomery singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. McAnnally got the win for Prattville Christian. She allowed four hits and one run over eight innings, striking out ten and walking zero. Lily Boswell took the loss for Plainview. She surrendered three runs on four hits over seven and a third innings, striking out 13. The Lady Bears smacked one home run on the day. Kidd went for the long ball in the second inning. Kenzi Traylor, Mia Tidmore, Tobi Trotter, and Kidd each collected one hit to lead Plainview. The Lady Bears were sure handed in the field and didn’t commit a single error. Tidmore had the most chances in the field with 15. Hanson led Prattville Christian Academy with two hits in three at bats.
I their second game, Plainview fought back after falling four runs down in the sixth inning. The comeback fell just short though, in an 8-7 defeat to Oakman on Wednesday. The Lady Bears scored three runs on a home run in the seventh inning. Plainview was right in it until Oakman doubled in the fifth inning. The Lady Bears opened scoring in the first inning, when Traylor homered on a 1-1 count, scoring two runs. Oakman knotted the game up at three in the bottom of the fourth inning, when Kelly hit a solo homer. Plainview put up three runs in the seventh inning. Crimson Wells had an RBI home run in the inning to lead the run scoring. Tessa Word took the loss for Plainview Bears Varsity. She surrendered six runs on six hits over four and a third innings, striking out four. Plainview launched three home runs on the day. Traylor had a homer in the first inning. Wells had a dinger in the fifth and seventh innings. The Lady Bears had 12 hits in the game. Wells, Kidd, Jayla Gravitt, and Traylor each managed multiple hits for Plainview Bears Varsity.
