Plainview gained another victory as it slipped past Westbrook Christian 31-28 last Friday night.
Westbrook got things started when Daniel Rohlfs rushed for a 7-yard touchdown and Mason Coley added a successful 2-point conversion late in the opening quarter.
Plainview opened the second quarter scoring as Dylan McCullough broke free for a 36-yard touchdown making it 8-6.
On their next possession, Coley found Rohlfs on a 3-yard touchdown reception. Layten Crawford kicked a good PAT.
Midway through the frame, the Bears kicked up their game, and McCullough rushed for a 6-yard touchdown. With 1:18 left of the second quarter, McCullough added his third touchdown lifting Plainview 18-13 at the half.
As the two teams continued battling for dominance Westbrook’s Cattling scored on an 8-yard run. Crawford kicked a good PAT.
However, with 27 seconds left of the third, Plainview’s Joshua Sandlin rushed for a 52-yard touchdown score, cutting the score 28-24.
The Bears rallied in the final quarter when Trey Rutledge connected with Andrew Hall on a 40-yard touchdown reception. Brayden Lingerfelt sealed the win, booting the point after for a 31-28 victory at the 4:29 mark.
Plainview finished with 481 yards of offense to the Warriors’ 299 yards. Sam Crowell led the Bears with 113 yards on 17 carries, Andrew Hall with 75 rushing yards on 11 attempts, and McCullough ran for three touchdowns behind 69 yards rushing on 12 carries. Rutledge rushed 10 times for 92 yards, completing 2 of 5 passes for 80 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions.
With the win, the Bears improved to 3-5 in Class 3A and 3-3 in Region 6 standings.
Plainview travels to Ohatchee (2-7, 2-4) on Friday for a regional finale.
