Rams Crush Gaston Bulldogs
By Nick Hall
Early turnovers proved costly as the Sylvania Rams crushed the Gaston Bulldogs Friday night, 52-0. The Rams scored early and often in the dominating performance, which began when Brody Smith connected with Keenan Wilbanks for a 71-yard touchdown strike on the Rams’ opening drive. Gareth Anderson took advantage of an errant Bulldog punt snap midway of the opening period, by racing 22 yards for Sylvania’s second touchdown. Gaston’s next drive was interrupted by an interception at the hands of Jordan Johnson. The Rams once again capitalized on Gaston’s misfortune, when Smith hit Grant Atchley for a 38-yard scoring strike to extend the lead to 21-0. The fumble bug bit the Bulldogs again late in the first quarter and again, Sylvania took advantage when Levi Anderson scored from 8 yards out to increase the Rams’ lead to 28-0. Jaxon Andrade kicked a 38-yard field goal midway through the second quarter to close out the first half with Sylvania leading 31-0. Gareth Anderson added another touchdown, this time from three yards out midway of the third period to extend the Rams advantage to 38-0. Atchley found Johnson for a 24-yard touchdown strike to make the score 45-0. Preston Darwin added the final touchdown of the night with a 7-yard run as the Rams crushed the Gaston Bulldogs 52-0. Smith completed 8-of-9 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns.
