Red Devils Rally
By Kelsey Prose
After the Fyffe Red Devils dominated against the Geraldine Bulldogs in the state tournament’s sub-regional round, they faced off with Piedmont, Area 11 winner, in the regional semifinal round on Friday night, February 19, at Fyffe Gymnasium. The Piedmont Bulldogs put Fyffe under duress as they came out and led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter and continued to lead into halftime 38-29. The Red Devils used a second-half rally to tie the game at 47 by the end of the third quarter, and with help from Xavier Works’ defensive effort, the Red Devils were able to hold the Bulldogs to four points in the fourth quarter and take the victory at 61-51. Parker Godwin led the Devils with 25 points and five assists, while Micah Johnson brought in 12 points with ten rebounds, and Brody Dalton scored 11 points with ten rebounds. Fyffe advanced to the final Regional game against cross-town rival Plainview on Tuesday, February 23 at Jacksonville State University at 4:30 PM. Fyffe and Plainview have faced off several times this season and, to this point, have split the earnings. The winner will advance to the AHSAA Final Four game on March 1 while the loser goes home.
