The Section Lions celebrated Homecoming with a victory over rival Pisgah on Friday night.
After both teams traded possessions for a quarter and a half, the Section Lions got on the board first with just over seven minutes to play in the first half. Section drove the ball 68 yards on 11 plays with Tanner Baker punching it in to give the Lions the lead 6-0 after the missed PAT. Section’s defense stopped Pisgah and had an opportunity to extend the lead before the half as they drove down to the 26 yard line. Pisgah’s Nate Corneluison picked off a pass in the end zone to end the half with Section leading 6-0.
In the second half, Pisgah drove the ball down to the Section 22 yard line before turning it over on downs. Section wasted no time as they moved the ball down the field on a 52-yard run from Baker down to the 4-yard line. From there, Baker ran it in for the score to extend the lead to 12-0. Pisgah answered on a 70-yard drive that was capped off with a 2-yard touchdown run from Quarterback, Wyatt Whisnenant to cut the lead to 12-6 in favor of Section. The Lions sealed the win with a 77 yard drive that ate up the clock as Ethan Clark scored on a 6-yard pass from Ryan Gray to give the Lions of Section the win 18-6.
Tanner Baker led the way for the Lions with 162 yards rushing on 24 carries.
Section will host Collinsville on Friday night in region play. Pisgah will face of with Geraldine in region play Friday night. Both games will kickoff at 7pm.
