Sylvania delivered a 34-7 beatdown against Class 2A No. 4-ranked Pisgah in a dominating performance last Friday night at Sam Kenimer Stadium.
Pisgah’s Jakob Kirby intercepted a Ram pass as the Eagles rushed 70 yards, with Legion McCrary capping the drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
The Rams answered with Aiden Parham cruising up the middle for a 63-yard touchdown run.
Jonah Gurley picked off an Eagle pass as Sylvania regained control of the ball. A few plays later, Braiden Thomas rushed for an 8-yard touchdown extending the Rams’ lead to 14-7.
A holding call cost the Eagles a Mason Holcomb touchdown pass to Grant Smith. Sylvania’s John Robert Dixon intercepted a Holcomb pass in the end zone.
Thomas capitalized on the play with a 46-yard run up the left side, furthering the Rams’ lead with a 2-yard scoring run.
At intermission, Sylvania led 20-7.
Quarterback Jaxon Smith found Landon Watkins on a second and fifteen for a 71-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.
Early in the fourth, Smith connected with Thomas on a 13-yard touchdown pass, making it 34-7.
With the win, Sylvania improved to a 4-1 overall record.
Parham rushed 16 times for 168 yards, a touchdown, and a 72-yard touchdown reception for the Rams. Thomas had 15 carries for 147 yards and scored two touchdowns on 16 carries. Parham and teammate Braiden Thomas combined for 315 yards rushing and three scores.
Jaxon Smith finished with 103 passing yards, an interception, a 71-yard touchdown pass, and a 13-yard touchdown pass.
Ashdon Cooley, Travis Owens, and Thomas led Sylvania’s defense.
Sylvania hosts Glencoe (2-3) for homecoming Friday night in a Class 3A, Region 6 matchup.
