By Nick Hall
The Valley Head Tigers dominated the Blue Devils of Falkville Friday night to the tune of 32-7. The win gave Valley Head their first region win in two years, and it came over the defending region champs.
The Tigers struck first with a 19-yard touchdown run by Jordan Burt. The PAT failed, and Valley Head led 6-0. Burt hit pay dirt again midway of the second period when he rambled 8 yards for his second touchdown of the night. Burt added a 2-point conversion, and the Tigers led 14-0. The Blue Devils avoided the shutout when Mikell Elliot returned the ensuing kickoff 89 yards for their only score of the night. Peyton Sallee’s PAT brought the halftime score to 14-7.
The two teams played to a stalemate in the third quarter before Valley Head’s Marlonn Trinidad opened the fourth with a 1-yard touchdown dive. Burt found the endzone again midway of the final quarter, this time from 27 yards out. The PAT failed, and the score remained at 26-7 until Burt scored again with two minutes left to close the game out at 32-7. The Tigers dominated the Blue Devils on the ground. Burt rushed for 122 yards on 23 carries and four touchdowns while Trinidad carried the ball 31 times for 213 yards and one touchdown.
