DeKalb County Alabama offers several local Fourth Of July events to celebrate our nation’s independence and enjoy leisure time with family and friends. The fun starts before the official day of celebration and continues after it has past. Read below for a few possibilities of fun things to do in DeKalb County.
Rainsville’s Freedom Fest gets the festivities started even before the first day of July. Rainsville’s Field of Dreams Sports Complex serves as the festival’s home on Saturday, June 29, 2019, starting in the morning with the annual car show. Vendors will line the park offering food, arts and crafts, and various other items for sale. Bounce houses, face painting, and pony rides are all free to the children attending. The afternoon consists of musical entertainment starting at 1:00 PM and ending with the annual fireworks show at 9:00 PM.
On Tuesday, July 2, 2019, the Fort Payne Independence Day Celebration takes place from 5:00 PM until 9:30 PM at the Fort Payne Sports Complex located at 4501 Gault Avenue in Fort Payne. This event is free to the public and offers food, music, and fireworks. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the evening.
On Thursday, July 4, 2019, several different types of events take place across the county. The Farm at Windy Hill located at 445 County Road 942 in Mentone, offers an afternoon of family fun. Visitors can stroll through the garden at dusk, sway to local tunes, and shop at the farm’s market. Admission to this event is free, but visitors may purchase BBQ plates ranging in price from $9.00 to $18.00 at the restaurant.
Also on the fourth, the Sand Mountain Potato Festival takes place at the Henagar Park from 10:00 AM until 9:00 PM. This festival celebrates the rich diversity of agricultural products, including potatoes. Visitors celebrate the area’s heritage with live music, a car show, arts, crafts, entertainment, games, and fireworks.
DeSoto State Park extends the celebration beyond the Fourth of July. The park hosts a Flag-Making Contest, a Splish & Splash Pool Party, an Independence Day Parade, and an Ice Cream Social.
The Flag-Making Contest allows participants to make a homemade flag to be judged. All ages are welcome to participate. Materials and flag-making rules will be available at the Improved Campground Pavilion inside the campground starting Wednesday, July 3, 2019. Flags MUST be turned in to DeSoto’s Nature Center no later than 9:00 AM on Saturday, July 6, to be judged. This event is free and open to all ages.
The Splish & Splash Pool Party takes place on Saturday, July 5, at the park’s Olympic-size pool where for an admission fee of $1.00 swimmers can play pool games, eat home-made ice cream, and enter for door prizes.
On Saturday, July 6, 2019, the Independence Day Parade begins at DeSoto’s Park Headquarters and ends in DeSoto’s Improved Campground. The parade starts at 3:00 PM and is opened to anyone that would like to decorate a vehicle and join in.
The celebration at the campground concludes with an ice cream social starting at 4:00 pm at the campground pavilion. Sit around and relax, eat home-made ice cream, and listen as the winners from the flag-making contest are announced. We hope you check out at least one of these local Fourth Of July events.
